Most store bought hairspray is laden with chemicals. It can dry your hair out and even cause damage and breakage (from drying it out). So, with this knowledge in mind and a head full of frizzy, damaged hair, I dove deep into the internet to try and find a natural hairspray recipe. As luck would have it, most people had the same recipe to share and it was working GREAT for them. However, I like to be difficult and different. So, I modified the recipe slightly to meet my own hair care needs. Without further ado, here's my recipe for what I like to call "hummingbird" hairspray. What you need: An empty spray bottle with a fine misting option 1 cup Water 3 tsp. Sugar 1 tsp. Salt 5 drops Peppermint Essential Oil 4 drops Lavender Essential Oil What to do: Bring 1 cup of water to a boil and pour it into a measuring cup. Believe me, the measuring cup makes life so much easier with this recipe. Next, you want to add 3 tsp. of sugar to the water. It doesn't really matter what sugar you use for this, but I used my all natural Florida crystals. After you dissolve the sugar in the hot water, add 1 tsp of salt to the mixture. Once again, you can use any type of salt that you like. For this, I used mineral salt. Once all of the ingredients are combined and properly dissolved, let the water cool. Once the water reaches room temperature, pour it into your spray bottle. This can be easily done thanks to that handy measuring cup!
After you pour the mixture into your bottle, add the essential oils and gently combine. By this, I mean tip the bottle back and forth to gently incorporate the oils into the mixture. It's important to note that, as much as we would like it to, oil and water do NOT mix. That being said, you will have to gently mix them together each time. This will disperse the oils throughout the mixture. Annnnndddddd... YOU'RE DONE! You now have your very own bottle of hummingbird hairspray! I would recommend using essential oils that repel insects (be sure to do your research first!) in addition to the peppermint and lavender. As it is, this is basically sugar water and I don't want any of you to have to deal with bugs! Good luck and Enjoy!!
