I'm one of those people who ALWAYS has a sore back. I swear, I hardly ever go painless! However, I do have a couple of easy tips and tricks to kick back pain to the curb. Keep reading to find out how you can too! Easy DIY Muscle Rub (In a Roller Bottle)Okay, I was reluctant to call this a muscle RUB because it is a liquid oil, but it does come in a roller bottle. That means it's super easy to keep in your pocket or bag. What you Need: Cinnamon Essential Oil Clove Essential Oil Carrier Oil (I like to use fractionated coconut oil) Roller Bottle (I use a 5mL size) What you need to do: Add 10-15 drops of Cinnamon Essential oil to your roller bottle Add 10-15 drops of Clove Essential oil to your roller bottle Top it all off with your carrier oil *Please note that your essential oils should only make up roughly 2% of your solution. I don't always follow this rule, so be sure to do your own research to figure out what works best for you.* Deep Blue RubSo maybe you're not the DIY type, but you want to use all natural products. That's fine too! doTerra has a fantastic rub that helps to ease the pain and tension right out of your muscles. All you have to do is buy and apply. DIY Icy HotThe cinnamon rub doesn't always do the trick for me. Sometimes I need the cooling sensation to ease the tension in my muscles. That's where this beauty comes in. Keep reading to see how I make my own icy hot! What you need: 1/2 Cup Coconut Oil 1 Tbs Beeswax 2 tsp Cayenne Pepper 20-25 drops Peppermint Essential Oil Cheesecloth Jar Here's what to do: Take a double boiler and add the coconut oil and the cayenne pepper. You're going to infuse the oil with the pepper and strain out the grainy stuff later. Let this mixture infuse (over the heat) for several hours. Take the cheesecloth and strain out the grainy pepper. Add the coconut oil back to the double boiler and add the beeswax. Melt together, add the peppermint essential oil, and then pour into a container of your choice. There you have it. My top three options to help with back pain. Do you have a secret trick or recipe that you use for your own back pain? Don't be shy! Share it in the comments below!
Do you have a stinger or splinter stuck in you? Create a paste using Calcium Bentonite Clay and water and apply a thick layer. Let sit for 30 minutes. The drawing properties of the clay will remove the stinger or splinter for an easy, no hassle, no pain removal.
Summer is here. That means late nights, activities with the family, outdoor sports, and pushing ourselves to our limits. When achy muscles get you down, here are a few natural options to soothe the pain. Epsom Salt BathI know, everyone already knows this one. But an Epsom salt bath could be the thing that your tired, achy muscles need to relax. I absolutely love the Lavender or Chamomile scented ones. They make the bath more than just a pain reliever, they make it a spa-like experience. Light some candles and soak away your pain (and stress!). Here's the deal: Add two cups of Epsom Salts to your hot bath and soak for at least 15 minutes. Want to moisturize your skin while you soak? Add 1-2 TBS of Coconut Oil to your bath water (or 1/4-1/2 cup of your favorite carrier oil). Deep Blue Muscle RubIf you're willing to shell out a little extra cash, I would definitely recommend this stuff. It's basically icy hot, but made with essential oils. The relief that it brings to my muscles is incredible. This is especially great after a long day of walking (Disney, anyone?) or working out at the gym. Are you dealing with joint pain, but your muscles aren't really a problem? This stuff is fantastic for that too! All you have to do is rub the cream into the affected area. It's that simple! The best part is, it isn't greasy at all and it actually leaves your skin REALLY soft. Want to get some? Here is an amazon link to the product ($32.18), though you can usually get a better deal with one of the specials that doTerra has going on. http://www.amazon.com/doTERRA-3890-Deep-Blue-Rub/dp/B005MQ2BQI Easy 2 Ingredient DIY Muscle RubOkay, so if you don't want to buy the cream above, you still have a few options for a muscle rub! These options might seem a little expensive at first, but they will last SUPER long. Ingredients: 5-6 heaping TBS Coconut Oil (or carrier/skin oil of choice) 10-30 drops Essential Oil (see options below)...if using clove, use 8-10 drops in 2 oz carrier oil Glass Jar Yupp, that's all that you need to make this super simple muscle rub. Directions: *before deciding how many drops of essential oil to use, make sure to check (if it's a blend) to see if there are any skin irritating essential oils in it. If so, you will definitely want to use less* Melt Coconut Oil in Jar (you can just add your liquid oil to the jar if that's the route you choose to go. I like Coconut Oil because it solidifies and becomes the perfect consistency to use it as a cream or lotion). Add your Essential oils and mix together (I like to use a plastic spoon because it means that I don't have to clean it!) Put in the fridge to solidify (if using coconut oil). If you want your rub to be cool, you can just keep it in the fridge! So now that you know what to do, here are a few options of Essential Oils that you can use: Arnica CreamThis is a lesser known natural pain reliever. Well, to my generation. My mom told me about this gem when I was playing volleyball in high school. It helps relieve pain due to sore or stiff muscles, sprains, and falls. It even helps to reduce swelling and heal bruises faster. So, there you have it. A few of my FAVORITE natural pain relievers. Have you tried any of these? Let me know how they work for you in the comments!
It's that time of year again! Your garden looks IMMACULATE. You've trekked through the ROUGHEST terrain. Either way, you arm is red, twice the size, and ITCHY. Poison Ivy, Poison Oak, AND Poison Sumac have returned, and you are their victim. FEAR NOT! There are ways to take away the itch, and to do it naturally. Here are a couple of my favorites: Ingredients1 tsp. Kosher salt (I don't know why you need Kosher, all I know is that it works better than any other salt!) 2 TBS Apple Cider Vinegar with 'The Mother' 2 TBS Distilled Water (It's super important that it is distilled as it will extend the shelf life and be more pure than tap) 3 drops Peppermint Essential Oil 3 drops Lavender Essential Oil 3 drops Tea Tree (Melaleuca) Essential Oil DirectionsMix everything together in a jar (or your choice of container). Make sure that the salt is fully dissolved and then place in the fridge. Not only will it keep longer, but it will feel 10X better to put it on cold, I promise! Here's the drill: Soak a cotton ball with your mixture and dab over the affected area. Repeat every 3-5 hours or until clear. Another Option - BathsLooking to take a relaxing bath? Add 3 cups of oatmeal and let yourself steep. I recommend grinding the oatmeal in a food processor so that it doesn't clog your drain. For an added kick, add a few drops of lavender or peppermint essential oil to the bath water or pop in some baking soda. Figure out what works best for you! Do you despise oatmeal? I don't know why you would, but if you do, try adding 1 cup apple cider vinegar to your bath water to ease the itch! Have you tried something totally crazy that has worked for you? Tell me in the comments below!
